It’s Valentine’s day for Rachael Ray Furnishing Details

By Barry Wisdom

Rachael Ray’s chronic perkiness may prompt nonstop squirming while watching her Food Network series “30 Minute Meals” and “$40 a Day,” but count on nothing but comfort from the chef-turned-furniture designer’s new casual dining line from Laneventure. So says Bob Ammirato , co-owner of Design Galleria by Valentine furniture galleries in Sacramento and Roseville.

Launched at the spring 2004 High Point market, Ray’s “get-togethers” collection began appearing in stores last fall, with new additions still arriving.“It basically is very casual, like Rachael Ray is,” says Ammirato. The collection’s three birchwood seating pieces — chair, barstool and counter stool — are available in three back designs, including a leaf, a pineapple and an “X” pattern. The chairs also feature changeable legs: square tapered, fluted and cabriole. There’s also a choice of finishes, including alabaster, wheat and black.

For a more tailored look, check out the collection’s upholstered dining chairs, barstools and counter stools, which are available with a traditional parsons back, roll back and camel back. The 12 available fabrics include classic cotton twills, bright cotton prints, multicolored linen textures and herringbone stripes. The three dining tables in the get-togethers collection are available in alabaster, wheat and black finishes, which can be matched or contrasted with the line’s chairs. The 48-inch round pedestal-base table seats four, while the 42-inch square table allows for more guests thanks to a a self-storing 20-inch leaf.

The 81-inch oval dining table also has a 20-inch self-storing leaf.

“I happen to like the fact you can interchange the styles,” says Jennifer Holloway , an interior designer on staff at Design Galleria by Valentine’s Roseville location. “They blend well with each other. The dining-room tables go well with the other chairs and it offers a nice fabric collection.”

Kitchen magicians
Speaking of celebrated chefs, Emeril Lagasse, Bobby Flay, Alton Brown and Paula Deen will help homeowners give their kitchens the star treatment in Food Network’s “All-Star Kitchen Makeover ,”a new miniseries of weekly one-hour specials premiering at 9 p.m. Aug 6. In the debut episode, Brown heads to Ann Arbor, Mich., to rescue fledgling caterer Nic Sims whose woefully inadequate kitchen does boast one unique feature — a toilet.
